Socialite:
The new job opening to apply

Socialite. A term that has lost translation. In the past socialites occupied upper rungs
of the ladder of society. They were noble. They spent time being entertained or
entertaining similar highs and mighties.
Not anymore. The
current crop of socialites smack of cheap, fake and irrelevant. Today we
explore the topic of socialites.
In the West,
socialites have a job description. They grace events, get paid for that and
have social causes to advance. They land plum brand endorsements by way of
advertisements. This is the script followed by Paris Hilton, Marilyn Monroe and
Kim Kardashian. These celebrities dabble (d) up as actresses, models and
sustain rags and tabloids. If they are not being discussed by leading tabloids
they are tweefing (tweeter fights/beefs). They give their fans something to
talk about. They keep us busy.
Human beings have
come up with careers since the beginning. But there is no better a luxurious
occupation than sitting back and being entertained. Getting people to talk about
you. Being famous for being famous. Mind you it is not for free. Socialites get
fat pay checks and within short time. They are like constitutional commission
members who sit lazily, duplicate a few policies for the government, plagiarize
old and tired thoughts, call a press conference and abracadabra! Money rains.
I believe
socialites get an honest income. They do not rob. They work hard and invest.
They save. They have followers who can be tapped by advertisers and marketers
for the sake of selling various products. They hold both say and sway.
Various mass
media outlets have focused attention on socialites. They know that if they
feature particular spotlight hogging individuals they will gain more readers,
listeners and viewers. And finally they can use this surge in audience to sell
advertising spaces and airtimes to advertisers. This translates to more revenue
for the company.
Appreciating
nature is wonderful. It is fascinating when the object of adoration is a live
human. Having appealing assets counts. Socialites know better. They take
selfies of their bums, cleavages, faces and boobs. They then upload the all
those body parts on social media sites and wait for likes and comments. They
walk a thin line of morality. Some go overboard and claim that the nude photos were
leaked. Why did they pose nude in the first place? That lie is hard to buy.
Others say that their real photos were photoshopped. My point is, there is nothing wrong with
beauty. After all beauty is all that is good. We do everything consciously and unconsciously
to achieve a certain degree of beauty.
Some people deny
they are not perfectionists. Wait until you are elevated to that godly status
steeped on high expectations. You will realize it is expensive to disappoint.
You are too big to fail. Such is the status the socialites enjoy that they
cannot lower the bar of standard. Their fans are unforgiving. They do not
reconcile themselves to the fact that beauty fades. That the sharp edge gets
blunt. That the shining figure gets dim and dull. The smooth rough.
And so I am not
surprised when I hear or even see a socialite celebrity on steroids and skin
lightning creams. Recently it was rumoured that some socialites are feeding on
fertilizers and antiretroviral drugs(ARVs) to fatten their backsides in order
to be more curvaceous and rounder- not because they are sick! Do not blame them.
It is the pressure to perform.
Once they realize
their time on stage is up they will do themselves justice of international
criminal cases proportions. Let’s face it. All of us age. Our limbs will fail
us. Our skins will fold. Our faces will be wrinkled. Yet the audience doesn’t
care where the figure will come from and at what price.
Socialites are
likely to commit suicide because of loneliness and heart break of sexual
relationships. Some have been preyed on by events managers, producers,
advertisers and basically it is who pays the piper calls the tune. Some have
confessed they put their honour and dignity on the line to please their
bankrollers.
Weigh your
options and choose whether you would rather put on a mercury -laced make up only
to die of cancer or you want to be yourself. The enhancements only improve what
is already there. If you are ugly you won’t be transformed pap! by the craze to
look good and socialite. An easier path to take is to accept yourself as you
are and move on. Black is beautiful.
Rate on a scale
of 1-10 the local socialites Al Huddah Monroe, Vera Sidika and Stacy Pendo and
tell me what you think. I will publish the feedback here next Sunday’s
blogpost.
